Trans Day of Visibility was created by Michigan social worker and trans activist Rachel Crandall Crocker in 2009. TDOV is a day to celebrate trans people and uplift our community. Here's how everyone can join us to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility!
FREE clothes and gender-affirming items. We will have tons to share--stop by to grab what you want or simply to hang out!
Access resources from many organizations, all in one place!
This year the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) and the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH) have teamed up to put on a Transgender Day of Visibility Arts Showcase on March 28th and 29th. This showcase features the artwork of trans folks and allies. These events are open to community members regardless of their affiliation with MSU.
Here is a breakdown of the 2-day event:
Friday, March 28th from 6pm-8pm in the RCAH Theatre, Snyder Hall room C020:

1pm-6pm: Art Showcase
2pm-3pm: Zine Making Workshop facilitated by Jamie John

4pm-5pm: Community Singing Workshop
5pm-6pm: Awards Ceremony and Refreshments
Join Inclusive Justice of Michigan, Equality Michigan, Gender Identity Network, and Stand with Trans for a powerful rally centered on Trans Joy--a celebration of resilience, love, and the right to live authentically. Featuring inspiring speakers, a drag show, community organizations, and a shared vision of empowerment. Capital Lawn, Lansing, 2 p.m. on 3/30/25.
Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility at The Avenue! There will be speakers and an open mic starting at 7pm. Karaoke starts at 9pm. Free pizza and fountain drinks!
Come celebrate yourself and your loved ones by picking out new clothes and accessories at the Salus Center! You don’t need to bring clothes to take some– everything will be free and all are welcome!
When: Saturday, April 6th, 2-6pm
Where: Salus Center, 408 S Washington Sq.
How to donate clothing:
If you’d like to donate clothing or accessories, bring them to the Salus Center during our Resource Hours between now and April 5th or to the Clothing Swap itself.
Our Resource Hours are on Thursdays from 9am-1pm and Sundays from 1pm-3pm. Details about what we accept below; extra items will be donated after the event.
Email frank@saluscenter.org to coordinate other times to drop off donations.
We will accept:
-gently used clothing
-accessories, including jewelry, hats, scarves, etc.
-gender affirming items that are new or like-new, such as binders, bras, breast forms, packers, tucking underwear, and similar items
-makeup that is new, such as eyeliner or mascara, and makeup that is like-new and cleanable, such as eye shadow, foundation, or powders
-body sprays and perfumes
-nail polish
-new or gently used shoes
We will not accept:
-used undergarments
-used gender affirming items
-clothing or other items that are worn or damaged
-used or difficult to clean makeup
-other items at the Salus Center's discretion

HIV, Syphilis, and Hep C testing:
Lansing Area AIDS Network will be offering on-site rapid testing for HIV, syphilis, and Hep C.
Vaccines:
Ingham County Health Department will be offering COVID, flu, Hep A, Hep B, Tdap, and Mpox vaccines at little to no cost with or without insurance.

Free Tax Prep:
United Way of South Central Michigan's VITA program offers high-quality, no-cost tax preparation services for folks in our community with moderate-to-low income. VITA's new mobile unit provides free tax prep appointments to community members in their community spaces.

Program parameters:
Services are limited to folks with a yearly income of 67k or less (with flexibility for folks close to but above the limit and folks facing other barriers/situations)
The following situations fall out of the scope of our program:
Business: Loss, depreciation, employees/hired contract labor, inventory, business use of home, expenses 35k or more
